Water cycle graphics illustrate the processes of precipitation, infiltration, runoff, and evapotranspiration to show how landscapes and water interact. Soils, vegetation, geology, and topography result in regional variability that leads to unique streamflow and groundwater behavior. LIDI developed this regionally appropriate water cycle graphic to depict pre-development and post-development hydrologic processes associated with the Central Coast region, and to illustrate the influence of green infrastructure to mitigate development impacts to these processes.
